The study makes me better in my daily work

In June 2022, Tine became CEO of the insurance company Agria Dyreforsikring, and six months later, in the spring of 2023, she embarked on an MBA at AVT Business School. Although it’s obviously a hectic course of study and she’s new to the job as CEO, it gives her a lot of energy in her daily work. She was recommended to start the program by her predecessor, who has now moved on in her career.

Originally, Tine has a degree in business administration supplemented by a degree from the Insurance Academy in Rungsted. And the insurance industry has been a big part of her career. For many years she was employed at Alm. Brand as a quality manager, among other things. But in 2018, some former colleagues brought her to Agria Dyreforsikring. And from there, things have gone fast. Among other things, she spent five months in Ireland in connection with Agria’s acquisition of Capstone Financial Service, and today she is CEO of the company in Denmark.
“I really enjoy challenges, and one of my strengths is that I’m good at getting into a department and then streamlining different processes. I was used for that in Alm. Brand and it’s also a task I’ve handled on an ongoing basis at Agria Dyreforsikring. I started as a claims manager at Agria. But Agria is a very large organization in Sweden, and they are constantly expanding across national borders, which also led to me working in Ireland for a period of time,” says Tine Stabell.

While Tine was commuting back and forth between Denmark and Cork (ed: Ireland), the Country Manager for Agria Denmark decided to move on in her career, and Tine was offered the job. With this came an invitation to start the MBA program.
“I was offered the position of Managing Director and it was just a challenge I couldn’t turn down. In the same vein, my new European manager recommended that I enroll in the MBA program. I looked into different options, but since both the former CEO and the European manager had completed their studies at AVT Business School and spoke positively about the high level of knowledge and flexibility, it was only natural that I wanted to study here as well,” she says.

Value from day one

Tine’s first course was Customer Centricity, taught by Kevin McTigue from the Kellogg School of Management, and already there she felt she was gaining useful knowledge for business.
“Before I started the program, like everyone else, I was a little nervous about whether I could keep up. Of course, it had been a few years since I had been in school. But the teaching is very practical, which means you can relate it to your daily life. My first class at AVT was “Customer Centricity,” and a lot of what I learned there, including the different models, I took back to my sales and marketing department and challenged them on. And today, we actually use some of the tools taught in the course on a daily basis, so I would call that a success,” Tine states.

Work and study – a perfect match

When you start out as a CEO and at the same time embark on a sometimes demanding study program, many might think that you risk burning the candle at both ends. But Tine doesn’t share that experience.
“Since the program and modules are structured in such a way that you can make use of it every time we’re at the school, it becomes integrated into my work, and I feel much better equipped, which is a benefit for both my workplace and myself,” she points out.

Although work and school take up a lot of time, there is also room for other things in Tine’s daily life.
“It goes without saying that school and work take up a lot of time, but I also have time for other things in my everyday life. Among other things, I prioritize physical training, and I’m very involved in my 14-year-old son’s elite swimming. Last but not least, I go to Agility training with my dog DaVinci,” she says.

A companion

And it is DaVinci who accompanies Tine to and from work, which both she and the dog enjoy.
“Animals are not only important to our customers, but also to us. That’s why we have designed our everyday life to accommodate the animals. For example, we have the opportunity to bring our dogs to work with us. This makes for happier dogs and happier employees. In addition, most of our employees have an animal of their own, so we understand our customers’ needs and share their joy, concern and grief when they lose one. We live and breathe animal welfare – not only at work, but also in our personal lives. It creates meaning in our working life,” Tine states.
